Kirsten Mathisen was part of the music scene in Austin, TX for over a year, playing fiddle with singer/songwriters and bands ranging from honkytonk to folk and roots rock. She played with Garner Sloan, and toured with Carson McHone, Anthony Ray Wright, Jeremy Pinnell, and The Troll Smashers. In October, 2016 she moved to Mumbai for 6 months to play Bollywood music as an international violinist for an Indian wedding company. While living in Mumbai, she worked with two musicians to start a female collaborative band called Ladies Compartment. The band is named after the women’s section on the local trains, and incorporates American folk, jazz, blues, indie, and Carnatic Indian classical traditions. Kirsten returned to India to play twin fiddle in Bluegrass Journeymen and reunite with Ladies Compartment for shows in both Delhi and Mumbai. She just moved to Denver and is exploring the new city and music scene.
